What effect do the meaningless fights over discovery have on your wellbeing?

I am finding it more and more common that opposing counsel and, to be fair, even myself and others on my side tend more and more to engage in meaningless discovery fights that just waste everyone's time and result in a waste of the client's money.

I also find that it has an often deleterious effect on both my sense of well being and any enjoyment I derive from my job.  It just leaves me feeling empty and depressed.  Having clerked for a federal judge, I know how negatively judges view these unnecessary and pointless disputes as exactly that because almost as a rule they tend to have no effect whatsoever on the outcome of a case. I have resolved to try to avoid engaging in these fights both for my own and the client's benefit.

What has your experience on this issue been?
